“It’s better to be lucky than good.”

Our boats were packed and sitting on the shore at Kalaloch this past Saturday. Destruction Island was hidden in the fog but it was out there, about six miles away. The plan was to go out and do a couple more surveys, take some more photos and film a bit, then head back with a completed project.

Well, the project is complete for this year, but we didn’t get out to the island. In between the shore and the open water was a wide surf zone with seriously large breakers. Getting out through the big stuff with a loaded boat requires a combination of skill and luck and Saturday was simply not one of our luckier days. There will be others, but they will have to wait.

Destruction Island will still be there.
